Conference Venue



The CCSC 2024 will take place in the Heidelberg Congress Center, Heidelberg, Germany. The Heidelberg Congress Center is a newly built state-of-the-art venue for scientific meetings, conveniently located in the up-and-coming Bahnstadt neighbourhood next to the Heidelberg Main Station.

Heidelberg is among the most popular tourist destinations in Germany, offering a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. Home to the Germany’s oldest university, as well as the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies, the European Molecular Biology Laboratory, and four Max Planck Institutes, Heidelberg is truly a hub for cutting-edge science. With the hills rolling along the Neckar River and a landmark castle overlooking the historical Old Town, Heidelberg offers a stunning backdrop to scientific discussions.

Travel



The closest airports are Frankfurt International Airport (FRA, home base of Lufthansa Airlines) and Stuttgart Airport (STR). From FRA, there are regular train connections to the Heidelberg Main Station via Frankfurt Main Station or Mannheim Main Station (total travel duration between circa 1h – 1h 30min) – please consult Deutsche Bahn for timetables and to book your tickets. Alternatively, a Lufthansa shuttle bus operates between FRA and Heidelberg several times a day (trip duration is approx. 1h) – please consult Frankfurt Airport Shuttles for timetables and to book your tickets. From STR, there are regular train connections to the Heidelberg Train Station via Stuttgart Main Station (total travel duration is approx. 1h 30min) – please consult Deutsche Bahn for timetables and to book your tickets.

The conference venue is located directly across the pedestrian walkway from the Heidelberg Main Station. Numerous buses and trams connect Heidelberg Main Station with the central square (Bismarckplatz, 10min) and the Old Town (Altstadt, 20min); the tickets can be purchased from the Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr (rnv) ticket machines at the train station and the tram/bus stops, as well as using the mobile app rnv/VRN Handy-Ticket.

Leisure Time



On Thursday May 23, enjoy the opportunity to explore Heidelberg during a free afternoon. For nature lovers, there is the scenic Philosophers’ Walk bringing you all the way up the Heiligenberg. As you reach the top, explore the Thingstätte open-air theatre and the ruins of St. Michael Monastery and the Roman Temple. History buffs should not miss the opportunity to visit the world-famous Heidelberg Castle with its breathtaking views of the Old Town and Neckar, and a giant wine barrel. Check the Castle’s website for opening times, ticket reservations, and access options. In case of bad weather, visit the student Karzer (prison) at the University Museum or explore the art and culture of Heidelberg at the Kurpfälzisches Museum Heidelberg.
